December 2011 Canon's 18.1 Megapixel EOS-1D X DSLR incorporates a number of key internal features including new mirror and shutter units, plus an improved sensor cleaning system. The fourth of a series of six films about the capabilities of the EOS-1D X examines the camera's internal mechanisms and explains the benefits of its control layout. In the film Canon Europe's European Professional Imaging Communications Manager, Mike Owen, explains some of the key internal mechanics of the EOS-1D X. He reveals: "We've been able to achieve the 12fps by putting in a new mirror mechanism that powers the mirror both upwards and downwards, which means it has a lot more control and a lot less mirror bounce." Amongst the key benefits of the new mirror mechanism is that it much more responsive; this helps to enable shorter shutter lag times, with a 50ms standard shutter lag and a lag of 36ms possible via a 'Shortened Release Lag' Custom Function. The shutter unit of the EOS-1D X has a durability of up to 400000 cycles -- this compares to the EOS-1D Mark IV's durability of 300000 shutter cycles. In a first for an EOS DSLR the EOS-1D X features a built-in, Gigabit Ethernet port on the side of the camera for higher speed data transfer. The five features of the wired LAN connection are: FTP Transfer, EOS Utility, WFT Server, Media Server and Time sync. Design

The 4 levels of noise reduction effectively work even at higher ISO's viz, 100- 6400 (extended to 12800).

Performance Speed

The inbuilt Digic 4 Image processor 14 bit A/ D provides speedy processing rates without comprising the picture detail and color accuracy. The amazing 5.3 frames per second provide an ultra speed nonstop shooting fun!

Other Features

The Raw image processing (excluding sRAW & mRAW) is dealt and saved as JPEG image. The supporting functions such as, brightness adjustment, white balance, picture style, auto lighting reduction, distortion correction adds to the beauty! Most common occurrence is hands shaking at higher ISO and quick shutter speed. This is somewhat less pronounced in this model The 18-200mm lens is fantastic to work with at different angles. The iFCL metering, along with a 63 Zone dual layer offers a good exposure as the focus point location and color data are simultaneously evaluated Multiple aspect ratio parameters (4:3, 1:1 3:2 and 16:9 ) Registration limit of 40 lenses is HD movie recording
